| SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 9:30pm @ Salvage Vanguard Theater - Apples Stage PARALLELOGRAMOPHONOGRAPH [Austin] ![]() Parallelogramophonograph, named Best Improv Troupe by the Austin Improv Collective, presents the latest in their catalogue of innovative improvisational show formats: Some Like It Improvised. PGraph will go back to our modern comedic roots and perform improvised screwball comedies in the style of 'It Happened One Night', 'Some Like It Hot', and 'Bringing Up Baby.' 'Some Like It Improvised' combines the comedy of mistaken identities, culture clashes, and mismatched couples into a fun night of improvised theatre. Fast-talking female reporters, out-of-touch aristocracy, independent heiresses, and percolating romance in close quarters form the backbone of these screwball plots. PGraph captures all of the charm and nostalgia of the 1930s and '40s romantic comedies and presents hilarious improvised plays that are as heart-warming as FDRs fire-side chats! So scrounge up a couple five-spots, give your favorite dame a ring, and make tracks for 'Some Like It Improvised'! Parallelogramophonograph loves to tell stories and experiment with new narrative formats. Pgraph performs weekly at ColdTowne Theater in Austin, TX, and has played in festivals all over the country. They were awarded "Best of Fest" in FronteraFest 2008. They recently returned from their East Coast Tour, where they performed at 7 cities in 10 days. The members of Parallelogramophonograph take turns sleeping in 2 hour shifts. - Reviews and Accolades - "We've seen P-graph in action a few times, observed them wreaking new and different improv formats, and they've always been bright and inventive, always seemed like it's a good thing they're talented, because, otherwise, they'd be having more fun than the audience. Because, the point is, you can tell they're having so much fun themselves. It's like ... like watching otters at play onstage, actually: hyperintelligent, human-shaped, joyously goofy otters. In a world without Ritalin and where Jon Stewart is the U.S. president. Yeah, it's like that." -The Austin Chronicle Austin Chronicle Review Interview in DT Weekend Review in the Austinist - Other Appearances - Chicago Improv Fest, East Coast Tour, Many Out of Bounds', Out of Bounds West, Wafflefest, The Big Ha!, Providence Improv Festival, Hawaii Improvaganza, FronteraFest on the web, on the facebook, on the twitter, on the myspace, on the youtube SCRAM [Chicago and Minneapolis]SCRAM is a nationally touring improv show featuring Jill Bernard (Minneapolis) and Joe Bill (Chicago), who improvise three scenes concurrently for about half an hour. Funny, daring, and theatrical, featuring two performers willing to break your heart along the way. SCRAM blends elements of Joe's signature form, "The Scramble," with Jill's acclaimed solo show "Drum Machine." Jill Bernard has been performing with ComedySportz-Twin Cities since 1993, and is also a founding member of HUGE Theater. Her one-woman improv piece, Drum Machine, has been featured at the Chicago Improv Festival, the Toronto Improv Jamboree, the Miami Improv Festival, Philadelphia Improv Festival, and the ComedySportz National Tournament, among others. She has taught and performed improv in Norway, Canada, and over twenty-five of these United States, in cities that include Juneau, AK; Spokane and Seattle, WA; Washington DC; Bowling Green, KY; Phoenix, AZ; and also on an episode of MTV “Made.” She is one-half of the duo SCRAM with Joe Bill of the Annoyance Theater. An Artistic Associate of the Chicago Improv Festival, she has studied at the Annoyance Theater, Improv Olympic, the Brave New Workshop and other organizations; and is the recipient of the 2005 Chicago Improv Festival Avery Schreiber Ambassador of Improv Award, and the 2007 Miami Improv Festival award for Best Solo Show. She was also the winner, in January 2000, of the Executive Vice President Award for outstanding contribution to Human Resources, the highest award in the American Express Human Resources function. - Reviews and Accolades - "Composed of Chicago improv veteran Joe Bill and Minneapolis powerhouse Jill Bernard, SCRAM put on a stunning and emotional set. The duo began by setting up two separate scenes, independently of one another, at the same time. After establishing the essentials of their own scenes, the two switched, assuming other characters in the worlds established previously. It’s one of those formats better understood once seen. And seeing it in action was pure beauty. Bill and Bernard’s scenework is incredibly grounded, giving rise to extraordinarily emotional scenes, tinged with true situational comedy. " - The Bastion, 6/6/2008 - Other Festival Appearances - Chicago Improv Festival, Improv Festival Oklahoma SCRAM is also playing the Big Sunday Headliner's Show with Cackowski and Talarico. on the facebook ====> BUY TICKETS NOW |
