The 2009 Out of Bounds Festival starts tonight, and I wanted to take another moment to remember some of the greatness of OoBs past. This time, it's a nugget from 2005, and a sketch trio called The Plurals.
_______________________________________________________________________ Adam, Braden and Joel had been coming to Austin from down south for a few months, and doing the occasional bit at No Shame Theater when they were accepted as The Plurals to perform at OoB 2005. We knew they were smart and weird, but had no idea what to expect when they started doing their show. What we got was a really hilarious, very solid set that featured the three of them doing some of the most memorable sketches ever performed at Out of Bounds. The one that still sticks with me is a video called "Cobbler Dogs," in which the President of Food creates a new edible snack that's half-jelly, half-weiner, all delicious. The Plurals sadly, aren't around anymore. But these three guys were seriously hilarious, and they took that whole show by storm. They came back and played again in 2006, and were again fantastic, but I will never forget the first time I saw them, and saw the "Cobbler Dogs" video, shown below. - This is a test of the Emergency OOB Broadcasting System. - Through some fancy-schmancy trickery, this here message should be Posted via email - One Stage Down... -![]() Here's an updated look at The Hideout Upstairs theatre that was designed and painted by Kaci Beeler. One stage down just about. Finishing touches tomorrow. Q: Are we taking this Nintendo thing a little too far? A: No. Labels: 2009, hideout upstairs, kacibeeler, stage - Recession Buster: ColdTowne Marathon - OOB is growing every year with more performers, stages, and overall shows. Well, this year, we've booked the intimate ColdTowne Theatre for a recession buster of a deal. 6 shows each night, Friday and Saturday, all for $5 ea. night. Show up when you want, leave when you want. The improv will just keep on rolling non-stop into the night.Check out tons of local groups and OOB mainstays like Massive and Galapagos. We're also very excited about welcoming The Daley Reome from Chicago and The Wilhelm Scream from Cinicinnati, who by the way, would win name of the year if there was such an award. So, if dollars are tight this year, you can still enjoy several hours of improv for just $5 a night, and if you're awesome, hop up on stage for the festival's only open jam on Saturday night at 11 right after the Marathon winds down! 8-11pm Friday and Saturday of the festival. See the schedules here. Tickets for the Marathon are only available at the door. Labels: 2009, ColdTowne, ColdTowne Marathon, improv - Tim League to be Pigeon - Friday at 11, Out of Bounds is having the second annual all-star casted Stool Pigeon at the Salvage Vanguard Theater. The cast will soon be announced and chock full of ace traveling performers from around the country on top of the scenic prov game. But the kicker is that Alamo Drafthouse and Fantastic Fest founder Tim League will be providing the epic stories needed to fuel those improv inspiration fires. Hear about the time he had to open-hand slap Quentin Tarantino, or the time Bea Arthur told him he was a "pooh-butt" (ok, so neither of these happened) but you get the point, the stories are no doubt going to be awesome.
