Unexpected Company is Rhode Island ’s most critically acclaimed improvisational comedy group. As the only group in the area strictly dedicated to long form improvisation, Unexpected has introduced thousands to a form of comedy rarely seen in New England . Based out of Warwick , Rhode Island , Unexpected Company performs an original long form structure called ‘The Morris.’ Starting with a single word suggestion from the audience, ‘The Morris’ is a loosely structured, fast paced comedy piece connected by monologues. 

Unexpected Company has performed in the Del Close Marathon at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City , The Toronto International Improv Festival, the Philadelphia Improv Festival, the Dirty South Improv Festival, as well as their first overseas venture performing their unique comedy for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland .  They have also co-hosted the successful Providence Improv Festival in their home state for 3 years running.

Called ‘a breath of fresh air’ by the Providence Phoenix, this young company has been performing weekly since March of 2003.  The Providence Journal simply describes Unexpected as ‘Pure Improv’ and after experiencing ‘The Morris’ it won’t be difficult for you to understand why.
